Canyon Diablo, Arizona

Diamond crystal (carbonado). When we cut this piece, the much harder diamond crystal actually moved the saw blade over and around it. The carbonado was probably formed when carbon, in the form of of graphite within the meteorite, was subjected to an intense shock, either in a collision with another asteroid or with the surface of the Earth.
